21. Star Trek : Next Generation Set Signage

Star Trek: The Next Generation Original U.S.S. Enterprise 1701-D Set Dressing Signage.

Created for filming by Team Okuda, "Auxiliary Systems" Control with whimsical and unique text including quote from the promotional campaign of the film "Alien" (1979) "In space, no one can hear you scream."

This is a really small, but still very interesting and quite amusing piece of production memorabilia, from the beloved Star Trek television series, "The Next Generation."

This is an original simulated-metallic 4 1/4" long by 1" wide set dressing sign with self-adhesive, that was created by the incredibly talented Team Okuda (Denise and Michael) of the Star Trek: The Next Generation art department.

It was the Okuda's graphic design brilliance that contributed so greatly to the futuristic look of the sets seen in Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Enterprise and many of the later Star Trek feature films, etc.

This original production artifact states in silver-colored lettering:

"451 AUXILIARY SYSTEMS 32-2398 CAUTION: OBJECTS IN MIRROR ARE CLOSER THEN THEY APPEAR TO BE. A STITCH IN TIME SAVES NINE. IN SPACE, NO ONE CAN HEAR YOU SCREAM."

It is well know trivia among Star Trek fans, that the Okuda's would often use various quotes, everyday phrases and words from famous TV show lyrics, such as those from The Gilligan's Island theme song.... "Now just sit right back and you'll hear a tale" (you know the rest), as filler text for use in the tremendous amount of set dressing signage that was required throughout the various sets of the Star Trek television shows and feature films that they worked on.

This is one of those actual historic "Okuda-grams" that if it had been used, would have been applied to a set piece or set-wall on the Star Trek soundstage, at Paramount Pictures backlot in Hollywood, California.
